Who said this?

“The Government believes that there are many barriers to social mobility and equal opportunities in Britain today, with too many children held back because of their social background, and too many people of all ages held back because of their gender, race, religion or sexuality. We need concerted government action to tear down these barriers and help to build a fairer society.”

Yes, it’s in the famous con-dem coalition’s programme for government. I wonder how many times we’ll be able to quote it at them?

held back from what I ask….more economic growth! Chained to jobs that require longer and longer hours with less and less social value and even greater over consumption – bring it on.

I believe the level of economic inactivity of the 50+ is also of great concern.

Well, Glynis, I’m with you on the consumption fixation. However, I like to think that many children are being held back from bringing their insight and wisdom to influence the way we do our jobs and live our lives, rather than being held back from being wage slaves.
